Mixed Media and More

What is Mixed Media?

Mixed media is the use of more than one art medium (ink, watercolor, acrylic, oil, plaster, wax, etc) in a single work.

Mixed media can be on paper, canvas, wood panels, concrete, walls, it can be a 3D sculpture, and more.

The mixed media classes that I teach are usually based on paper and combine ink (pen) with brush markers, water color, or other types of ink.  Perfect for art journals.

What is an art journal?

An art journal is a book to record thoughts,  feelings, sketches, ideas and more that is visually based.  It may have words, or it may not.  It can contain mixed media - pen, inks, paints, collage, stenciling, ephemera, and more!  Really, anything goes!

Some of the different mixed media/art journal techniques I teach include:

  • Gel Plate Printing
  • Inks - Distress Oxide, Dylusions Sprays, India Ink
  • Brush and other markers and pens
  • Collage
  • Using Stencils and Stamps
  • Zentangle Frames
  • Paper marbling
  • Watercolor pencils, powder and paint
  • Texture Paste/Modeling Paste
  • Image Transfer

Book Making

I also teach basic bookmaking classes.  I prefer books with the open spine so you can see the beautiful stitches we create :)   In a bookmaking class you will learn:

  • Tools used in bookmaking
  • Putting together signatures and paper
  • Book Covers
  • Assorted Stitches
  • Embellishments (Bling!)
